How to tell if you or someone you know qualifies for a Seniors House:
- Age: All applicants must be 55* or older at the time the application is filled out.
- Need: The applicants must be living in inadequate housing or spending more than 50% of their gross household income on rent and utilities (water, gas, & electric). Inadequate housing can mean physical, such as the structure is beyond repair, the plumbing doesn't work, the heating or cooling systems are inadequate, or the electric is old & dangerous, etc. It can also mean that the senior is living in overcrowded conditions.
- Ability to Pay: The applicants must be low-income (below 50% of area median income). They must have income to make their house payment which will include property taxes and homeowner insurance.
- Land: When New Hope Construction does not have donated land available, the applicant must own their own property which must be free of any liens. This land is where the new home will be built. This land must be free of hazardous and toxic materials.
- Other: Other criteria may be required depending on the requirements of grants obtained.
Seniors At Home
New Hope Construction’s Seniors at Home program was developed to provide quality housing at affordable prices for senior citizens with low income. The goal of Seniors at Home is to produce quality housing for seniors who are living in inadequate conditions based on either structural insecurity or impractical financial situations. The Seniors at Home project will oversee the production of the pre-framed house packages, along with construction of these house packages through utilization of volunteer workers.
Applicants for the Seniors at Home program are chosen by New Hope Construction based on the following criteria: Age, need, ability to pay, land ownership, and their willingness to partner.
If chosen for a Seniors at Home house, New Hope Construction will sell the applicant their house at no profit and offer a 0% mortgage.

Disaster Flood Relief Program
Since 1996, church groups and other non-profit organizations throughout the U.S. including The Fuller Center for Housing, United Way, Hurricane Katrina Organizations and Habitat for Humanity use New Hope Construction’s complete energy efficient pre-framed house packages for their projects.
NHC’s Seniors at Home Program (SAH), implemented in 2007, provides very low-income and homeless seniors living in substandard conditions a new energy efficient volunteer built house.
With grants, fundraisers, donations and volunteers, 42 Tennessee families have been provided with a SAH house, 31 have been completed in the past 18 months, with a 30 year interest free mortgage and no down payment or closing costs.
Over half of the current 42 FEMA disaster counties in Tennessee have no habitat affiliate or have limited housing options. Thanks to donations since the flood of 2010, one senior family in Perry County, TN, will soon move into their new volunteer built 2 bedroom/1 bathroom house.
To expand the SAH Program into all FEMA designated disaster counties surrounding Davidson County in Tennessee, New Hope Construction needs your financial support. Your tax deductible donation will provide safe, energy efficient, volunteer built housing and New Hope for our seniors in need.
