Wall Panels 09/29/2010
House packages that use pre-built wall panels and trusses are one of the more "green" options available to those who are concerned about the environment. Where most sustainable building is concerned, aside from energy efficiency, waste is one of the primary concerns. For those who want to make sure their new home is as environmentally-friendly as it can be. Pre-Built Wall Panels and Trusses are actually one of the better ways to go about building by avoiding generating large amounts of waste during the building process. The reason that this the case is easy to understand, though it may not be obvious from the start. Pre-Framed Wall Panels and Trusses are made from materials that are supplied in the exact quantities. While this is a major way that costs are controlled for the company, it has the additional benefit of being more environmentally-sound than building from scratch. Using exact quantities avoids overages in material, a lot of waste built into the design. There is a difference in the amount of material needed and the amount of material that is actually ordered when stick building from scratch. Our Pre-Framed Wall Panels and Trusses are built by carpenters and other professionals who are supplied with the exact amount of materials for the job. The designs of each parts of the home are also made more efficient simply because that are refined and redesigned as time goes on, resulting in ever more efficient results and even less material waste. Because they are constructed in a controlled environment, there is no loss of materials to weather or other environmental damage, which makes the entire process better for the company and better for those who worry about the environmental impact of the build of their house. 1 Comment The Face of the Captain 08/31/2010
I Have Seen the Face of the Captain Robert Louis Stevenson loved to recount the story of a ship tossed in a storm. The sea was rough and the rocky coast perilous. Danger was real and dread expectancy active among the seamen. One frantic sailor who was laboring below the water line could contain himself no longer. He rushed to the control room, closed the door behind himself, and stood frozen in fright watching the captain wrestle with the controls of the huge ship. Skill of mind and strength of hand enabled the captain to guide the vessel through the threatening rocks into open water. The Captain turned slightly, looked at the frightened sailor, and smiled. The youth returned below deck and assured the crew all danger was over. When they inquired how he knew, he answered, "I have seen the face of the Captain, and he smiled at me." If you will only "turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace." When you know who is in control there is no fear. Post Title. 08/23/2010
Today I am going to share with you an email that a friend of mine sent me. I found it v Encourager Classic: The One-Armed Man A 10-year-old boy felt as though he had lost his identity when he lost his left arm in a devastating car accident. After six months of adjusting to his handicap, he decided to study judo despite the fact that he had only one arm. The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn't understand why, after three months of training, the master had taught him only one move. "Sensei," the boy finally said, "Shouldn't I be learning more moves?" "This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you'll ever need to know," the sensei replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training. Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first tournament. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals. This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match when the sensei intervened. "No," the sensei insisted, "Let him continue." Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy used his move to pin him. The boy had won the match and the tournament. He was the champion. On the way home, the boy and the sensei reviewed every move in each and every match. Then the boy summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind: "Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?" "You won for two reasons," the sensei answered. "First, you've almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. And second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm." The boy's biggest weakness had become his biggest strength! Paul knew that God will take our biggest weakness and use it to show His strength. "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. [10] That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. New Hope Construction is looking into doing SIPs (Structural Insulated Panel System) as an upgrade for our housing packages. SIPs represent a innovation in building technology. These large "easy to assemble" panels make it possible to erect homes quickly. By spreading the structural load over large areas, Builders can eliminate the many individual studs used in stick framing. In addition to reducing labor and construction time, the SIPs technology is ideal for creating air-tight, highly energy efficient homes. New Hope Construction is always looking into new ideas and area of building to keep green and efficient. Let us know what you think about SIPs. Dunlap Update 08/06/2010
It's pretty quiet around the Village today. The much needed rain cooled things off for a bit, so hopefully that will provide some short term relief. While we are waiting for the first layer of the road to settle in Phase 2, things are progressing on construction of the houses at lots 33 & 34. The roof will be completed soon, and then we will move indoors to begin the interior work. If you are interested in volunteering, we can use assistance with construction work, family support, meals, and transportation. Please give us a call at 1 866-396-3673, ext 22. We are currently working on the first 2 houses of a sixteen house build, so there are 14 more houses to follow! Progress on Phase 3, Dunlap 08/03/2010

Next will be the roof trusses, and then we can begin installing shingles, then move to the interior. It is so exciting to be able to see the stages of the build, and know that very soon 2 more homeowners will be moving to the Village! ![]() This is a view of the build site and future road for Phase 3. There will be a total of 16 homes in this phase, and a combination of townhomes and single detached houses. Each house will be 2 bedroom, 1 bath with covered back and front porches, and a 1 car garage. ![]() Wouldn't it be great to wake up to this view every morning! This is looking out from Phase 3 sites to the existing houses in the Village, and the valley beyond. Phase 3 Begins! 07/29/2010
![]() Phase 3 of the Seniors at Home Village of Dunlap began just a few days ago with the first 2 lots cleared and foundations poured. The roof trusses, flooring, and wall packages were delivered this week, and weather permitting should be in place within the next week. This lot is surrounded by many mature trees with a great view of the valley, as are all of the houses in this subdivision. We will soon have 2 more families moving into the village to join the neighborhood! Paving of the streets in Phase 2 is also in progress. The first layer was added this week to level the streets. Once this layer settles for a few days, the paving will be added. Then comes the individual homeowner sidewalks, driveways, and gutters. Please contact us if you would like to be involved with the Phase 3 construction. Volunteer opportunities include assistance with construction, family support, and meals for the volunteers. We appreciate the volunteers and partners who have helped us to make the Village a reality! New Hope Construction is happy to report that on June 17, 2010, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati approved our grant request to build 16 houses and awarded us $798,362 for this project. These houses will be in the 3rd and final phase of the Seniors at Home Village of Dunlap. Funding for each of these phases was received from Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, and additional funding for Phase 1 was awarded from the THDA Tennessee Trust Fund through the Southeast Tennessee Development District. In addition to these grants, first mortgages for most homeowners are provided by THDA through the New Start Program, which enables us to establish a zero percent interest, 30 year mortgage for our homeowners. Sixteen houses were built in Phase 1 of the Village. Groundbreaking was on July 24, 2008, and all houses were completed by the end of June 2009. Phase 1 dedication was held on August 10, 2009. On a beautiful summer day, the families, partners, and friends gathered to show appreciation to those involved in making this a reality. After the pledge of allegiance and flag presentation made by the ROTC MOCS Color Guard from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, each homeowner was recognized and presented with a Bible and flag. On the same day, Russell Meade, our CEO/President & Founder, announced that Phase 2 would soon begin. A short groundbreaking ceremony followed, and several homeowners opened their homes for guests to visit. With Phase 2 recently completed, we now have an addition 15 senior families who are enjoying their new homes. Paving for this phase is scheduled to be completed in the next few days, and construction for the first 2 houses in Phase 3 will follow. This project has gone beyond just “building a house”. Both personal and business relationships have been established. Local contractors, appraisers, surveyors, and real estate personnel have been utilized whenever possible, which has given Dunlap an economic boost. We are so grateful for having been a part of this community for the last 4 years and also for making a difference in the lives of the seniors who are now residing in the Village. ![]() Phase 2 applicants attending Homebuyer Education Class ![]() One of the first houses in Phase 2 under construction ![]() A townhome under construction in Phase 1 of the Village ![]() Two completed townhomes in Phase 1 of the Village New Homeowners in Lobelville, Tennessee 07/21/2010
On June 24th, 2010, New Hope Construction completed our 42nd house since the Seniors at Home program began in 2006. Our newest family lives in Perry County, in the Lobelville community, and has a brand new home in a beautiful country setting. We want to thank all of the family, church members, and other volunteers who assisted with this build. We were so impressed by the community and how everyone pulled together to do the construction work, supply food, and whatever was needed to help this deserving family. Once the house package was delivered in Mid-May, work began and the actual construction time was about four weeks. Each build is special, and this one was no exception.
